Senator Ahmed Lawan, the Senate President has warned Nigerian leaders and policymakers that the challenge of youth unemployment should not be engaged with levity. Ahmed Lawan challenged his colleagues in the senate to give prominence to youth employment and empowerment into the 2021 budget in order to avoid another round of #EndSARS protests.

Senator Ahmed Lawan made this known when Mr. Sabo Nanono, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, and his team in the ministry to defend the 2021 budget before the Senate Committee on Agriculture.

Ahmed Lawan also noted that Nigeria needs to meet the needs of angry and grumbling youths who have the strength to protest and others who do not have the strength to do so. He said this is important for the government to be ‘proactive’ in meeting the people ‘where they are’ in order to placate their anxieties and anger.
