The Federal Government has deployed extra security forces to watch over public assets in Lagos State. This was done to impede further destruction of public infastructures in Lagos State by hoodlums.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Governor, disclosed this on Thursday morning, October 22nd, 2020. He stated that Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin, the Chief of Defence Staff and Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff, called him on Thursday to ask whether more troops could be deployed to secure public assets and he said ‘Why not? Our airports and other public buildings must be secured.’

In the past few days, there has been continual report on widespread violence as hoodlums repeatedly loot and burn down government properties.

Sanwo-Olu had on Tuesday declared a 24-hour curfew. This was imposed due to miscreants hijacking the #EndSARS protest which started out peacefully.

Banks, local government secretariats, police stations, the Palace of the Oba of Lagos, Shoprite Ajah, Nigerian Ports Authority head office, the governor mother’s house at Akerele, VIO/Federal Road Safety Corps’ offices at Ojodu, the Magistrates’ Court at Igbosere, TVC station, the Nation Newspapers office, and many others have been burned down in the last 48 hours.
