Lagos Rehabilitates 459 Roads in 2024- Sanwo-OluOla Akinwunmi The Lagos State Government has achieved a significant milestone in its infrastructure development efforts, rehabilitating 459 roads across the state in 2024. This feat was made possible through the support of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, who backed the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) in executing the project.

According to Tokunbo Ajanaku, General Manager of LSPWC, the corporation has remained committed to ensuring that Lagos roads remain motorable and drainages are in good condition throughout the year. This effort is a critical component of the THEMES + agenda, which focuses on transportation and traffic management.

The rehabilitation work on the 459 roads involved various forms of intervention, including full rehabilitation, sectional rehabilitation, routine maintenance, and palliative work. Of these, 316 roads have been completed, while work is ongoing on 143 roads.In addition to road rehabilitation, the corporation also carried out the desilting of 433 kilometers of drains and repaired 0.96 kilometers of drainages. This ensures that drainage facilities can provide the necessary support for road infrastructure through proper water flow.

LSPWC’s operations have covered all 57 local government and local council development areas in the state, making a significant impact across the board. The corporation’s daily work schedule and data are available on the Lagos State website and its social media handles.

Looking ahead to 2025, Ajanaku expressed optimism that the corporation would receive better funding, enabling it to surpass its 2024 record. With steady funding, LSPWC aims to rapidly address most road defects within the first and last quarters of 2025.

However, he urged residents to take ownership of road infrastructure in their communities to avoid road abuses.
