The Zamfara state Police Tactical Operations has confirmed the arrest of a notorious bandit popularly known as Maiyammata.
The bandit who was arrested yesterday was alleged to have been terrorizing Zamfara villages, together with his accomplices was apprehended within Zurmi Local Government Area during a police patrol.
According to the Zamfara state Police Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Elkanah, the bandit was arrested while trying to kidnap innocent villagers and passengers in Koliya village.
The arrested suspect who was said to be a former member of Bello Turji kidnap gang but now reportedly working for another kingpin known as Kachalla Sani-Black, which has also been declared wanted by the police.
Maiyammata’s current gang, Sani-Black operates along Zurmi, Shinkafi and Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara state.
According to the State Police Commissioner, one AK-47 rifle, double magazines with three rounds of live ammunition, and one Boxer motorcycle were recovered from him.
Ella nah further stated that the police are intensifying their efforts to apprehend Maiyammata’s group members who are presently at large, assuring charges would be filed against them in court.
Security response has been increased in the northern part of Nigeria which has been ravaged with different security challenges in recent years with Bandits, Boko-Haram and herdsmen causing different attacks.
