Some unknown  gunmen have reportedly kidnapped 70 travelers along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari expressway on Wednesday.

The unfortunate incident was said to have occurred around Udawa village after Buruku in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

An eyewitness who confirmed the incident told newsmen that the kidnapped victims were only traders, who were attacked by their assailants in the early hours of Wednesday. They were later taken to the forest.

However, the Kaduna State Police Command confirmed to newsman that 48 of the kidnapped victims have been rescued by the police.

According to the spokesman of the command, Mohammed Jalige, told journalists that the operatives of the Buruku Divisional Police station, who were escorting travelers along the road were ambushed by unknown gunmen who opened fire on them.

Jalige confirmed the police successfully repelled the attack, while rescuing 48 of the kidnapped victims.

The police spokesman also denied any casualty on the part of the police, adding that the rescued victims are all doing fine.

 He further assured the police are intensifying their efforts to rescue others who are yet to be released, adding that the Kaduna state police is working tirelessly to end kidnappings and banditry in the state.
