President Bola Tinubu has approved N95 billion for the rehabilitation of over 16 dams in Kano State, aimed at boosting irrigation farming. This significant investment is expected to revitalize the agricultural sector in the region.
Additionally, the government has awarded a contract for the construction of the Eastern Bypass Road, which will connect the southern part of the state to the city. This infrastructure project is anticipated to enhance transportation and economic growth in the area.
Dr. Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, the newly appointed Executive Director of Finance at the Hadejia River Basin Development Authority, expressed his gratitude to the President for his appointment. He also acknowledged the efforts of Senator Kawu Sumaila in securing the N95 billion appropriation for the dam rehabilitation project.
The rehabilitation project will focus on dams such as the Challawa Gorge Dam and Tiga Dam, among others. A technical committee has been inaugurated to evaluate the dams and ensure their effective rehabilitation.
Kwankwaso emphasized that the project is a testament to the administration’s commitment to the development of Kano State and the North. He also highlighted the government’s plans to complete the Kano to Kaduna and Abuja expressway, as well as the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipeline project, slated for completion in 2025.
The N95 billion investment in dam rehabilitation and infrastructure development is expected to have a positive impact on the economy and livelihoods of the people in Kano State and the surrounding regions.
