The Oyo State Police Command has arrested eight individuals, including Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi. The others arrested include Fasasi Abdulahi, the school principal, and six other event organizers and staff members.

The arrests were made in connection with a stampede that occurred during a children’s Christmas party at the Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan, Oyo State, resulting in the deaths of 35 children. Six others are critically injured and receiving medical attention.

The police statement revealed that the event was organized by WINGS (Women In Need Of Guidance and Support), a foundation founded by Prophetess Naomi Silekunola Ogunwusi. Agidigbo FM, a prominent private radio station, had earlier disclaimed involvement in the event, stating they were only media partners.

Eyewitnesses described the chaotic scene, with many children trampled in the stampede. The police have transferred the case to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, with the Deputy Commissioner of Police leading the investigations.

The Oyo State Police Command has assured the public that justice will be served accordingly and has sympathized with the families and loved ones affected by the tragedy.
