Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has backed the four contentious tax reform bills forwarded to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu. Akume believes the bills are well thought out to revive Nigeria’s economy.

Speaking on TVC’s “Politics on All programme,” Akume emphasized that the laws would benefit the country when fully considered and passed by the National Assembly. He urged Nigerians to allow the bills to scale through the required legislative processes, assuring them that the bills are “well envisioned for Nigeria and Nigerians.”

Akume also assured Nigerians that President Tinubu has not lost goodwill among Nigerians due to the tax reform bills and other strategic economic decisions taken within the last 17 months. He noted that the president aims to reposition the nation’s economy, just as he did with the removal of fuel subsidy and harmonization of foreign exchange windows.

The SGF advised those eyeing the presidency to wait until 2031 when President Tinubu would have completed his second term. He emphasized that President Tinubu, as a Southerner, should be allowed a second term, and those desiring his office should wait for their time.

He said: “President Tinubu through the reform bills, wants to reposition the Nation’s economy as he earlier did with the removal of fuel subsidy and harmonization of the foreign exchange windows in the country.

“It is very easy to destroy but difficult to build , the various reforms being rolled out, are meant to rebuild the destroyed Nigeria by previous administrations.

“Very soon, Nigerians will start seeing results from the reforms being carried out”.
