The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) on Friday officially announced the petrol price for the newly rehabilitated Port Harcourt refinery. According to the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), the refinery will sell petrol at N1,030 per litre.
This announcement comes after earlier reports of the petrol price at the refinery were debunked by PETROAN and NNPCL. The corporation had clarified that it had not officially released any pricing information at the time.
PETROAN spokesman, Joseph Obele, confirmed the new price, stating, “NNPC Retail Ltd has officially announced the PMS price at the Port Harcourt refinery as N1,030 per litre. The product request portal is also open for booking/request.”
Obele also clarified that the refinery is currently running at 70% of its capacity, despite earlier claims of it being non-functional.
This development is part of NNPCL’s ongoing efforts to revive its refineries. The new refinery, with a capacity of 200,000 barrels per day, is expected to begin production shortly.
The Port Harcourt refinery, located in the Eleme area of Rivers State, is crucial for the country’s oil production. PETROAN has expressed interest in collaborating with all active refineries in Nigeria.
The Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources recently visited the refinery, confirming its functionality and witnessing petroleum trucks being loaded.
According to reports, this is a significant step forward for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, and is expected to have a positive impact on the country’s economy.
