Born on 20 March 1985, in Lagos, Nigeria, Mary Njoku grew up with a deep passion for the arts. She attended Amuwo Odofin High School, National College Gbagada, and Navy Town Secondary School for her secondary education, where her love for acting first took root. Determined to pursue her dreams, she went on to study English language at the Lagos State University. She also attended London Film Academy in the United Kingdom where she took a course in Movie Production.  

Mary Njoku’s acting career began in the early 2000s when she made her debut in a Nollywood movie titled “Home Sickness”. She appeared in several movies and quickly gained recognition for her exceptional talent and on-screen presence. Her performances in films such as “Blackberry Babes” and “Hustlers” showcased her versatility and ability to portray diverse characters with depth and authenticity. Her role as Jumoke in the highly successful television series “Dear Mother” catapulted her to stardom. Mary’s portrayal of the complex character won the hearts of audiences across Nigeria and established her as one of the industry’s most promising actresses. Her exceptional talent earned her nominations and accolades, solidifying her position as a sought-after actress in Nollywood.

While Mary Njoku’s acting career flourished, she recognised the need to contribute to the industry beyond her on-screen performances. In 2011, Mary created iROKtv, a YouTube page that featured interviews with Nigerian superstars, as well as Afrobeats and Nollywood events. With a visionary mindset and an entrepreneurial drive, she co-founded ROK Studios in 2013 alongside her husband, Jason Njoku. ROK Studios is a film production company dedicated to creating and distributing original African content.

Under Mary’s leadership as the CEO, ROK Studios quickly made a name for itself, producing high-quality films and TV series that resonated with audiences both locally and internationally. The studio’s commitment to telling authentic African stories, combined with Mary’s creative direction, led to the release of numerous successful productions, including “Husbands of Lagos,” “Single Ladies,” and “Breach of Trust.”

Not content with confining her success to traditional film production, Mary Njoku ventured into digital streaming platforms to widen the reach of African content. In 2016, she launched the ROK TV mobile app, providing an accessible platform for viewers to enjoy Nollywood films and TV series on their smartphones.
