Lekan Balogun

Ten of eleven Olubadan-in-Council has today endorsed Dr Lekan Balogun, as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland.

This was disclosed by the Osi of Ibadaland at a briefing of Kingmakers on Wednesday after the conclusion of their meeting.

Ajibola said the kingmakers unanimously selected Dr. Balogun as the next Olubadan of Ibadan land.

The council, however, denied the reports making rounds that legal tussle could truncate the succession of the Olubadan throne. The Kingmakers confirmed that the previous administration of the late former Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi did not tamper with the Ibadan Chieftaincy Declaration of 1957 by elevating them.

He further denied rumors to the health  and physical stability of the newly elected Olubadan adding that all negatives and social media reports should not be taken serious.

Meanwhile, the only notable absentee from the meeting was former governor Rashidi Ladoja, with all other members present at the meeting.

In attendance were notable High Chiefs like, Balogun Olubadan, Owolabi Olakulehin, Otun Balogun, Olufemi Olaifa, Asipa Olubadan, Osi Balogun, Eddie Oyewole, and Tajudeen Ajibola.

Others were Ekaarun Olubadan, Amidu Ajibade, Lateef Gbadamosi, Ashila Balogun Olubadan, Ekaarun Ibadan, Kola Adegbola and Ekerin Olubadan Abiola Kola-Daisi

It could be recalled that since the former Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, passed away on Sunday 2nd of January, 2021, there has been rumors going round the media that Lekan Balogun may not be installed as the new Olubadan.

The reports stated that Lekan Balogun, having being formerly installed as an Oba who was also given the right to wear beaded crowns and coronets negates the culture and therefore disqualifies him as the next Olubadan.
