President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) Benjamin Okaba has expressed displeasure over President Muhammadu Buhari’s continuous declarations that funds looted at the Niger Delta Development Commission will be recovered and those found culpable in the forensic audit report shall be punished.

President Buhari on Thursday last week made the declaration again in his address in Abuja at the virtual opening of the NDDC Prototype Hostel at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Reacting to this, Okoba referred to the President’s declaration as mere rhetoric adding that there was nothing new and intriguing about the President’s statement as he had made similar statement in the past.

The INC President insisted that there had been a clamor that forensic auditing should be a routine administrative process of the NDDC, adding that it does not worth celebrating.

“Buhari has made several promises. People have called for the audit report to be made public. The issues, as they are, remain mere allegations and as a far as the INC is concerned, we have before now demanded release of the forensic audit report and as many persons that have not delivered on the assignments given to them, let appropriate actions be taken.”

He however, appealed to President Buhari to constitute a substantive board of the NDDC, adding that the action, if taken, would excite the people and not the promises made.

He added that the president does not need the permission of Nigerians to prosecute anybody found wanting and they want to see actions taken. He further said that they want to see the list published and the persons involved in unscrupulous acts publicly named.
