The Katsina State Police Command has announced the death of five of its officers who died at different operations in gun battle across the state, while 38 bandits were killed in the State.


Addressing the audience at a Press Conference, the Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Buba who was represented by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Gambo Isah, said despite the challenges at the time, the Police Command has recorded colossal success against the menace banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, among other forms of criminal cases in the State.


He recounted that, the Command has recorded a total number of 874 arrested suspects, who are undergoing proseecution at the State’s Court of law as a number of 999 suspects were arrested in connection with 608 reported cases.


In addition, a total number of 157 suspected Armed Robbers were arrested while 145 of them were charged to court, 12 are currently under investigation. A number of 65 suspected kidnappers were also arrested; while 63 have been charged to court, the remaining two are still under investigation.


While 244 suspected cattle rustlers were arrested, 230 suspects have been charged to court while 14 are under investigation. Having arrested the hoodlums, a recorded number of 1,243 domestic animals were recovered which consist of 867 cows, 352 sheeps, 24 goats and one donkey.


On reported cases of rape and unnatural offences, 246 suspects were arrested in 195 reported cases; adding that, 63 victims were rescued in four reported cases of Human Trafficking which were transferred to NAPTIP office in Kano State.


215 kidnapped victims were also said to have been rescued from suspected bandits/kidnappers, while under their abductors were under investigation.


Some of the items that were recovered were also recorded in the number of 20 suspected stolen vehicles, 18 stolen/bandit’s motorcycles, 4 General Purpose Machine Guns, 44 AK 47 riffles, 1 LAR riffle, 1 G3 Rifle, 20 Locally made guns, 689 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition of AK 47 riffle and 109 Anti Air-Craft ammunition (AA).


The commissioner gratefully appreciated the Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Usman Baba, for his dauntless support to the Command; in achieving of its quanta success. He also appreciated him for elevating him to the rank of an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG). After which he promised to be more dedicated to duty in working harder, to achieve a much expected quantum of success in the rank of an AIG.


Concurrently, the Commissioner, appreciated members of the Press for Collaborating with the Command in restoring peace and security in the State.
He said, “ You have sincerely and passionately displayed fraternity and collaboration towards strenghthening the relative peace and security in the state through your fair and balance reportage of the Command activities.”
