The Nigerian entertainment industry recently stood still for Richard Eyimofe Evans Mofe-Damijo, (RMD) as he turned 60. The fun-fare, glitz and glamour that greeted RMD’s birthday celebration were fascinating.

Regarded as one of the most colourful and legendary actors in Nigeria, RMD has engraved his name in the sand of times.

In his illustrious Thespian career, he has been involved in over 52 movies that go beyond the shores of Nigeria.

As we continue to witness an outpouring of encomiums, homages and tributes from all and sundry to one of Nigeria’s gifted actors, Boom examines 5 movies that have kept RMD in the limelight for so long.

Out of Bounds (Directed by Tade Ogidan/1997)

Pastor Voke is the target of two women who are hell-bent on sleeping with him. The Pastor steps out of his marriage and finds himself in a web of lies and deceit which ruins him.

Richard Mofe Damijo, Bimbo Akintola, Rachael Oniga, and Steve Rhodes, among others, acted in the movie. Out of Bounds was an instant hit in 1997 and it has continued to be a reference point to RMD’s sustained legacy in the Nigerian movie industry.

Diamond Ring (Directed by Tade Ogidan/1998)


A spoilt brat by the name of Chidi is sent to a University quite early by his parents. When he is on campus he joins a gang that later rob a mortuary. Unknown to Chidi and his gang members, the booty from the tomb would have grave consequences.

Keeping Faith (Directed by Steve Gukas/2002)

This is a romantic movie that highlights the extent people go to keep their relationship going. The movie talks about the role of black magic in relationships. It tells the story of Nadine who does her possible best in keeping her man Princewill using magic.

The following actors participated in the movie: Genevieve Nnaji, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Joke Silva, Bimbo Akintola, Fred Amata, Ego Boyo, Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi and others.

Suicide Mission- (Directed by Fred Amata/1998)

The storyline is as predictable as it gets. A seductress Monique comes in between Austin and his wife Winnie. She uses spiritual means to control Austin. This movie is memorable because we get to see RMD locked in a bottle thanks to some tricky special effects.

Richard Mofe- Damijo, Regina Askia, Ameze Imarhiagbe, Obot Etuk, Patrick Doyle, Peter Bunor Jr. among others acted in the movie.

Wedding Party- (Directed by Kemi Adetiba)

What happens when you throw in an insecure virgin bride, a reformed playboy groom, two overbearing mothers who can’t stand each other, one philandering husband, a high-strung wedding planner, the invasion of unruly village gate-crashers, a thief on the loose, a best man with a flash drive full of secrets, a sexy former boyfriend with vengeance on her mind, two loyal bridesmaids ready to go to war, and a brother seeking his father’s approval? The movie turns out to be a hilarious melting pot of disaster.

The movie tells the story of Dunni Coker and Dozie Onwuka’s wedding. Dunni Coker, a 24 -year-old Art gallery owner and the only daughter of her parents is about to marry the love of her life, IT entrepreneur Dozie. The couple took a vow of chastity and look forward to their first night together, as a married couple. The awaited Wedding day finally arrives and it comes with lots of unexpected drama.
