The Federal Capital Territory Administration has revealed that a total of 476 health workers, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory staff, drivers, and other auxiliary personnel have been infected by the Coronavirus (COVID-19). This is since the first case was recorded in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) early this year.
Anthony Ogunleye, Chief Press Secretary to the FCT Minister, Muhammed Bello made this known on Tuesday in a statement.
The secretary also revealed that four doctors had died from the disease, the recent death was a female doctor.
Ogunleye has stated that all hospitals have fully begun operation. This includes emergencies for adults, children, delivery and maternity services, 24-hour theatre service, and other services.
He however revealed that there has been no recorded fatality over health personnel within the last week. He stated that the FCTA had remained committed since the outbreak of the virus in the country to curb the spread of the virus. Ogunleye also disclosed that laboratory and pharmaceutical services and hospital kitchens were fully operational in all health facilities in the territory.
The secretary announced the resumption of all clinics after the Christmas holiday.
Ogunleye pleaded with FCT residents to adhere to all health and safety protocols to contain the spread of the virus. He also emphasized the need to observe physical distancing, frequent hand washing, and facial coverings.
