Mr. Udom Emmanuel, Akwa Ibom State Governor has announced a seven-day mourning in the state for Air Commodore (Rtd) Idongesit Nkanga, former indigenous military administrator of the State.

Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, Secretary to the State Government made this known on Saturday in a statement. The seven-day mourning commences on Saturday, 26th December 2020.

He stated that flags would be flown at half-mast during the whole period of mourning in the state.

Late Nkanang died on the 24th of December, 2020 in an isolation centre in Uyo as a result of covid-19 complications. The secretary added that all required protective protocols and contract tracing have been put in place prevent any possible spread of the virus.

Nkanga served as the Director-General of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Divine Mandate Campaign organization in 2015 & 2019. He was also the Chairman of the Ibom Airport Development company and Ibom Air.

‘The Governor, HE Udom Emmanuel is greatly saddened by the news of his passing and condoles with the bereaved family,’ the Secretary disclosed during his statement. ‘Consequently, the Governor has declared a seven-day period of mourning effective Saturday, 26th December 2020. Flags are to be flown at half-mast for the entire duration of the mourning in the state,’ he added.
