The Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, has stated that, very soon, International Smartphone Industries would establish their Assembling plants in Nigeria, following part of an agreement reached to boost Local Content Development. This will bring about employment especially for the teeming tech-savvy youths.

The Petroleum Minister made this known recently while speaking during the training of 1000 youths on GSM Phone Repairs, Maintenance, Software and Hardware Specialization. The training was a constituency project jointly organised by the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board and Nasiru Ali Ahmad, the House of Representatives member representing Nasarawa Federal constituency.

According to Timipre Sylva, the training is an effort by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to develop local content with youths taking the centre stage. The minister further opined that Nigeria has the highest GSM market in the whole of Africa, noting that GSM is not luxury but an essential commodity, hence, the training.

The House Representatives Member, Alhaji Nasiru Ali Ahmad, from Nasarawa, Federal constituency, Kano, added that the training on GSM Phone Repairs and Software maintenance was part of his contribution in reducing youth unemployment through technology. According to him, thousands of young people graduate from universities but have no employment, hence the need to train them on self-sustenance.
