The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has shut down its office in the Alausa area of Lagos State. According to reports, NIMC shut down its system and asked people to return to their respective destinations. An official who was addressing the people present at the office said there was an instruction to shut down the office. He said this was owing to the crowd likely to increase the chances of people contracting the deadly coronavirus.
The official of the commission further cited the public declaration of a second wave as the reason. He explained that there was an upsurge in the number of cases in the country especially in the state, hence the need to take precaution and adhere strictly to COVID-19 guidelines. When asked how soon the office will be reopened for NIN registration against the two weeks’ deadline, the unnamed official stated that it was subject to further notice.

Earlier, probably in a bid to simplify the process, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) had instructed National Identification Number (NIN) applicants to download the enrolment form, fill and submit it at any of its enrolment centres across the country.
NICM made this known in a tweet via its Twitter handle.
“Dear #NIN applicants, you can kindly download the enrolment form below. http://commtech.gov.ng/Doc/enrolment_form_v2.pdf
Fill & submit the form in any of @nimc_ng’s enrollment centres to be enrolled into the National Identity Database & be issued the National Identification Number,” NICM tweeted.
It could be recalled that Nigerians were given a two-week ultimatum to synchronise their SIMs with their National Identification Number, otherwise risk losing their mobile numbers.
