The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control ( NAFDAC ) has announced that Nigeria would soon start manufacturing its vaccines. Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director-General made this known while speaking during the NAFDAC ’s staff Award Ceremony. She revealed that achieving the ISO 9001in June last year, which is the world’s most recognized Quality Management System (QMS) standard, placed Nigeria in a position to strive to attain maturity level three. This level will enable the country to manufacture its own vaccine.

Prof. Adeyeye pointed out that the agency is making the most of technology to trace vaccines, especially when the COVID-19 vaccines arrive the country. She added that the agency’s laboratories were being upgraded to international standard with equipment that are compliant to ISO 17025. Her words:

“Our laboratories are changing very rapidly with improvements in new equipment and supplies. Our four laboratories that were accredited before I came have received re-accreditation. We have also gotten a new lab-the Yaba Biologies and Vaccines Lab accredited for the first time. Also, our two other labs will be accredited very soon.”
