Malcolm Omirhobo, a Nigerian Lawyer and Human Rights Activist, has called out the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as regards the Arabic inscriptions on the Nigerian currency.
A court in Lagos Nigeria is set to hear the case filed by the Nigerian Lawyer against the Apex bank. Malcolm who is demanding the removal of the Arabic inscriptions on the local currency, insisted that the Arabic inscriptions be replaced with either English or any of the three main local languages (Yoruba, Hausa or Igbo) in the country.

However, CBN in response to this denied that the inscriptions were symbols of Islam while buttressing that a higher percentage in the country, most especially in the North, speak Arabic even when the country’s main language is English.
Mr. Malcolm, also, challenged the Nigerian army to take out the inscription from its military logo, saying it presents Nigeria as an Islamic state which totally contradicts the country’s constitutional status of being a secular state.
