Following the fire outbreak that occurred in the mid-hours of yesterday at a tank farm in the Ijora area, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has asked residents to calm down as efforts are being made to cushion the effect of the outbreak.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA Director, in a statement said a combined team comprising public and private stakeholders had partially quelled the fire and prevented it from spreading to other areas in the community. In his words, he said that ‘All appropriate measures to combat the flames and prevent secondary incidents have been taken.’
He further stated that ‘Though the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, all relevant stakeholders from the Federal Fire Service, LASG Fire Service, Nigerian Navy Fire Fighters, UBA Fire Service, Forte Oil Fire Service and Officers of the Nigerian Police Force are working assiduously to curtail the fire from escalating to other tanks in the depot.’

The LASEMA Director, moreover, clarified that there was no loss of lives consequent on the outbreak.
However, The Journal garnered that the Fire Service has not been able totally to de-escalate the fire. The fire which reportedly started around 12:30 PM yesterday has continued to rage even till the early hours of this morning.
