The Nigeria Immigration Service, (NIS), has warned personnel to refrain from extortion and other related activities that would tarnish the image of the service.
Muhammad Babandede, the Comptroller-General (CG), gave the warning in a statement during the October service parade in Abuja, yesterday.

The CG charged officers and men not to connive in the harassment of citizens or collude in the looting of public or private properties. He further advised them to respect citizens who travel across the borders and guard against extortion.
He said, ‘ECOWAS member states are ECOWAS citizens. They have visa abolition exemption. They are not to be subjected to any payment while crossing the border with valid travel documents and through recognized entry points whenever borders are opened by government.’
‘The service also will witness facelift by alignment and harmonization of ranks of its personnel due to the removal of dichotomy between HND and degree holders, which we view as a relief as advocates of skillful personnel against unskilled.’
The CG further stated that most officers would be given a new rank with respect to their grades and hostility will soon become obscure.
