The Federal Government has inaugurated the first board of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), after seven decades of its establishment.
Mr. Goddy Jedy-Agba, the Minister of State for Power, yesterday, inaugurated the first board and also launched the newly constituted management team of the agency.
Mr. Chineaka Ohaa, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Power, said that it is statutory to set up a board so as to ensure proper guidance in line with the policy of President Buhari’s administration.
The Perm Sec, further described NEMSA as the police of the power sector, saddled with the responsibility to ensure the implementation of technical standards and for the adequate distribution of power in the country.

Mr. Jedy-Agba, while speaking at the ceremony in Abuja, also revealed that the appointment was temporal and is renewable upon expiration every three years.
He implored the newly inaugurated board not to fail in assisting President Muhammadu Buhari to achieve his goal of supplying adequate electricity to Nigerians.
The Minister, further, laid emphasis on the collaborative effort of the board and the management team of the agency which must be in tandem with stipulated laws, in order to achieve the goal of the agency. He urged the board not to be in dissension with the management of NEMSA.
However, the Minister, considering how crucial the sector is to the economy, advised members who feel incapacitated or those who think they can not cope with the rules of engagement to back out of the board.
He said, ‘It is not a joke that he is insisting that we get-started because the power sector is the kick-starter of the industrial revolution in our country. This is a milestone event and I expect us to take it with all seriousness.’
Engr. Peter Ewesor, Managing Director, Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), while expressing optimism, described the inauguration as a moment of joy for the agency. He also noted that with the newly inaugurated board members on board, the management will be able to carry out any task designated to it.
He posited, ‘Today is a moment of joy for this agency. We want to start by saying we thank the President for graciously granting that this board is constituted. We want to thank the minister of State for making this happen because we have worked as an agency for almost seven years before this historic event of today.’
