The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has completed the construction of Escravos-Lagos pipeline phase 2 (36’x342km). There will be the immediate transmission of gas to power stations in the country.

Zakhlem Construction Nigeria Limited assigned the project to the NNPC.The construction company is one of the biggest construction pipeline with the potential to serve many power stations around the South West region.

Mele Kyari, Group Managing Director of the NNPC disclosed that the completion of the gas pipeline project was proof that the present administration had an interest in the growth and development of infrastructure in the country.

Kyari stated that the project will help in the delivery of natural gas at numerous power plants that are already completed within the South West region. The output will lead to a robust economy as this will enhance creation of employment in the labor market.

The Escravos-Lagos pipeline is the longest pipeline project constructed by the Federal Government.

‘This achievement has come with a lot of commitment and sacrifice on the part of government, which is why we shall continue to ensure that this particular Excravos Lagos pipeline is used to pipe gas to power plants in the area’, Kyari stated.

The projects’ intention is to compel the needed growth and development in the oil and gas industry. This will increase the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in Nigeria, especially at a time when the power sector is struggling to keep afloat.

The engineering procurement and construction contract carried-out by Zakhem will enable the majority of the gas operators around Egbin Power, Ikeja Industrial Area (with Gaslink as a major off-taker). More recipients are Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical, and other industries and factories around Lagos and Ogun State.
