The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed the collapse of a three-storey building that was under construction in Obalende area of Lagos Island.


About 7 persons have been confirmed dead and 20 injured in the building collapse at Lagos Island on Sunday.
Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the DG/CEO LASEMA disclosed that, ‘The emergency response plan has been activated and all responders are en route the scene.’

Nosa Okunbor, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) revealed that the cause of the collapse of the building located at No. 62, Odo Street is not yet known.
He said, ‘Upon arrival at the incident scene, a 3-storey building under construction was discovered to have self-collapsed.’


‘The cause of collapse is yet to be ascertained, but efforts are presently ongoing by LASEMA and other responders towards salvaging the situation.’
‘About 20 people  have been extricated alive by the LASEMA Response Team and other stakeholders, and have been attended and quickly transferred to the hospital by LASEMA paramedics for further medical attention at Lagos Island General hospital.’


Nosa added that, ‘A total of 7 people (Six males and one female) were recovered dead from the collapse and handed over to SEHMU at the incident scene’.


However, the recovery operation is still ongoing at the scene of the incident
