Mailafia

The Plateau State High Court has dismissed the application of
Obadiah Mailafia, an ex-Deputy Governor of Central Bank challenging
the invitation of the Police over some of his comments related to security
issues in the country. The Justice Arum Ashoms however said that the application lacked merit in its entirety.

Justice Ashoms asserted that the Nigeria Police have the constitutional rights to invite people for the purpose of engaging them and to investigate any allegations. Mailafia’s 10 point defense of his rights was dismissed by the Judge because the Judge said that the police was established by the government to detect crime and apprehend offenders in a bit to preserve the law and order. He referred to Section 4 of The Police Act
that the Police were well within their powers to invite Dr Mailafia.
