Vice President Yemi Osinbajo noted that Nigeria may break if attempts are not made to address press fractures in the nation. Osinbajo said this at the
National Ecumenical Centre; an interdenominational church service to celebrate Nigeria’s 60th Independence anniversary on Sunday.
However, he expressed optimism that the government is doing all it can to undermine the efforts of those who want to benefit from Nigeria’s disunity.
Prof. Osinbajo alluded to Nehemiah’s efforts in rebuilding the broken walls of Jerusalem. The VP urged christians in Nigeria to imbibe the kind of passion, loyalty that Nehemiah had for his country. ‘It’s only that kind of Nehemiah’s love that will make us, as Nigerians, to rebuild the cracks we have in our walls today.’ he said
While expressing optimism that Nigeria’s 60th Anniversary would usher a great lease of life for Nigerians, he noted that ‘Fortunately for us, our walls are not yet broken but there are obvious cracks that could lead to a break if not properly addressed’. He asked Nigerians to pray for the peace, security and prosperity of Nigeria, as Nehemiah fervently did in his day, and to be united in purpose in the rebuilding of the country.
Among those present were representatives of the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; Head of Service of the Federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan; permanent secretaries, military officials, members of the diplomatic community and other senior government officials.
Dr. Samson Ayokunle, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, in his sermon, highlighted the need for justice, which he said, would bring peace, tolerance and love to our dear country.

‘For us all to be on the same page, have a sense of belonging and be happy, the doctrine of equality, that is equal access to employment, governance, and education must be available to all. The principle of inclusivity must be adopted. Nobody or region must be excluded from the scheme of things in Nigeria.’ Ayokunle said.
