The African Women in Leadership Organisation (AWLO) is set to inaugurate the AWLO Ikot Ekepene Chapter, on the 3rd October 2020. The event is set to hold at the Martha Udom Emmanuel Women Development Centre, Ikot-Ekpene. Akwa-Ibom State.

AWLO, kicked off in 2009 at West African Women in Leadership Conference at Accra Ghana. It has since been working on women development projects in Nigeria and collaborating with other platforms in West Africa. AWLO is involved in capacity building programmes, leadership programmes and community development projects that promote and elevate the woman in society. The NGO also leverages on global stakeholders in other to entrench equity and gender equality in any decision making system. The Group also takes in cognisance the need to transfer intergenerational values by setting up the Youth Wing of AWLO across all its chapters. Part of its achievement was the Strategic plan at the 2010 National Women Rally which has mandated women to send their representatives to political parties, in order to assert for the implementation of the 35% Affirmative Action for Women. Over the last years, the organization has carried on with its women’s leadership advocacy, through the bi-annual African Women in Leadership Conference held in Africa and the Disapora. In 2015, the AWLO set up a framework to reach and empower local women for leadership.

Dr. Elisha Attai, Founder of the AWLO who said that AWLO was set up to build a viable network for women leadership in all spheres. He noted that there remains an urgent need for women to be ‘instrumental  to each other’s successes’ instead of closing the door against one another. For Dr Attai, this was the only way to create a pool of successful and exemplary women in society. Attai said, ‘The African Women in Leadership Organisation is my legacy, for the women’.   

He will be joined by Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel; the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State (Mother of the Day). Other noble guests that will be in attendance are Mrs. Mfon Usoro; Secretary General, Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control for West and Central African Union, Guy Murray Bruce; President, Silverbird Group, Lagos, Mr. Ephraim Akparawa Inyang-Eyen; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Akwa Ibom State.
